Kestikievari &
Korvalan Komea
THIS IS A GREAT PLACE FOR TRADITIONAL FOOD
The word "kestikievari" comes from the Swedish word "gästgiveri" which means "guest-giver". Korvala has always been a place that has given guests food and shelter, so, for the intrepid travellers of the north, it is equivalent to a roadside inn. Established in 1889, it has functioned as a kestikievari for over one hundred years, making it the oldest tourism business in the Rovaniemi region. The restaurant has recently reopened and is named after Seppo's mother, "Korvalan Komea", which means "Korvala's beautiful one" in the local dialect. It was her nickname in the 1930s. "Komea" can also be used to describe an imposing and impressive building or place.
